Laser Vein Surgery (EVLT) Treatment
What Is Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)?
Endovenous Laser Therapy (also known as EVLT or laser vein ablation) is a modern, minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins caused by venous reflux. Using ultrasound guidance, a fine laser fiber is inserted into the affected vein through a tiny skin opening. Laser energy heats and seals the vein shut, redirecting blood flow to healthy veins.
This outpatient procedure is quick, safe, and requires little to no downtime.

The Treatment Journey
Case Study: Life-Changing Results from Laser Treatment
Gloria, a 58-year-old teacher in Houston, had suffered from varicose veins and nightly leg cramps for 6 years. She was hesitant about surgery—until she discovered EVLT. After her 40-minute treatment, Gloria walked out of the clinic and resumed teaching the next day. Within two weeks, her swelling was gone, and her energy levels returned.
What to Expect During EVLT
- Initial Ultrasound Mapping – Veins are examined to locate the source of reflux.
- Local Anesthesia – Numbing is applied around the vein (tumescent anesthesia).
- Laser Fiber Insertion – A laser fiber is inserted through a small catheter.
- Vein Sealing – Laser energy is delivered to close the vein from the inside.
- Post-Procedure Walk – You’ll be encouraged to walk immediately after.
- Back to Routine – Most patients resume normal activity the next day.
Recovery & Aftercare
- Walk for 20 minutes daily for 1–2 weeks
- Wear compression stockings as advised
- Avoid heavy lifting or prolonged standing for a few days
- Some bruising or tightness may occur but resolves quickly
Patient Success Stories

When we retired to Central Texas, we wanted to find a place where we could get all of our medical care in one place. We chose Houston Methodist West and we’re so glad we did. Only a little more than an hour’s drive away from Weimar, we have first class primary care, cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics and probably more that thankfully, we haven’t needed yet! Most of our doctors utilize MyChart which makes keeping track of appointments, test results and messages so easy. The staff are always friendly, free parking is always available and they take great care of us!

Friendly staff, free garage parking is appreciated and they took great care of my family member.
