MIGUEL A. GOMEZ, III, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Miguel Gomez founded the Houston Vein Institute, located near Houston Methodist West Hospital. Dr. Gomez is an experienced cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon recognized as a leader in both heart surgery and vein treatment. His understanding of the vascular system offers a unique and unmatched expertise for patients who suffer from varicose vein and spider veins. Dr. Gomez does more than make problem veins look better, he understands how to treat patients’ underlying vein problems.

In addition to his work at the Houston Vein Institute, Dr. Gomez is also Chairman of two departments at Houston Methodist West Hospital. Dr. Gomez is among the first cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons to successfully master robotic surgery. His experience with vein issues ranges from minor spider veins and telangiectasias to more serious problems like deep vein thrombosis.

Dr. Miguel Gomez is committed to offering a superior level of service to his patients at Houston Vein Institute. He has built an outstanding team that is dedicated to serving the vein treatment needs of all Houston area patients. Using imaging and cutting edge treatment technology, patients begin feeling and looking better right away.

IN 2005– he became the first surgeon in Houston to perform a robotic-assisted, multi-vessel coronary artery bypass via mini-thoracotomy.
IN 2007– he became the first in Texas to perform a robotic-assisted thoracic Heller myotomy.
IN 2009- he became the first in the US to perform a robotic-assisted removal of an esophageal leiomyoma.
Dr. Miguel Gomez became board certified in general surgery in 1998 and cardiothoracic surgery in 1999. He is founder and president of the International Robotic Surgery Center for the Heart and Chest at Houston Methodist West Houston Hospital and a guest host of the Methodist Health Radio Hour on 7:00 AM KSEV. He currently serves as both Chairman of the Department of Surgery and as Director of Robotic Surgery at Houston Methodist West Hospital.

Dr. Gomez enjoys volunteering in his community. He works with the non-profit Strake Jesuit College Preparatory school in Houston, and with the United Way. He was born in Miami, Fla., in 1965, and has called Houston home since 1967. He lives here with his wife and three sons, and enjoys coaching their baseball and basketball teams. Dr. Gomez is proud to call Houston home, and is dedicated to his patients, and the community. He loves to see patients enjoying greater confidence and freedom after resolving their problem vein issues.
