Do you suffer from painful legs? Do your legs feel sore and heavy if you have been on your feet all day? Maybe you have veins that bulge or look twisted, commonly known as varicose veins? Perhaps you have sought treatment, but do not want to undergo the painful surgical procedure known as stripping. Now, as a result of a new minimally invasive laser treatment for varicose veins known as EndoVenous Laser Treatment (EVLTTM), you no longer need to suffer.
As well, are your legs plagued with spider veins? Do you not like the look of your legs due to spider veins? There is help. The Houston Vein Institute offers a variety of treatments including sclerotherapy and other spider vein treatments. Our cardiovascular surgeons work with you to provide the right spider vein treatment for your condition.
In most cases, our initial exam is covered by most insurance plans, because our surgeons perform an extensive exam to determine the cause of your varicose vein or spider vein problems. Contact us today or schedule a vein appointment online to get some relief from your spider vein or varicose vein problems.
We Are Cardiovascular Surgeons
Unlike many other vein therapists in the Houston area our doctors are cardiovascular surgeons. They specialize in heart and vein surgery. Additionally, our vein surgeons are on the leading edge of heart surgery as well as treatments for varicose veins and spider veins. Whether you suffer from varicose veins or spider veins, our surgeons can discuss your options regarding laser surgery for varicose vein removal or other treatments for varicose veins and spider veins. Please review our website for more information about varicose veins, spider veins, laser surgery, our doctors and more. Then please contact us to schedule an appointment to discuss your vein issues.
What Are Varicose Veins?
Veins through your body return blood back to your heart. To do this efficiently veins have one-way valves to prevent blood from flowing backwards due to gravity. If the valves fail to close properly, blood will pool in the vein.
Over time, this pooling will force the vein walls outward, resulting in enlargement and sometimes bulging of the vein giving it a rope-like appearance.
Who Gets Varicose Veins?
You are not alone... Tens of millions of people around the world suffer from varicose veins with hereditary factors playing an important role in their development. Women are almost twice as likely to have varicose veins; however, a significant number of men are also affected.
Factors That Contribute To Varicose Veins
- Pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills
- Professions which require prolonged standing or sitting
- Obesity or lack of exercise
- Increasing age
What Are The Symptoms?
EndoVenous Laser Treatment (EVLTTM)
EVLTTM is a quick, minimally invasive laser procedure that leaves no scar, has a short and relatively pain-free post-operative recovery period and is performed under local anesthesia in the doctor's treatment room.
The treatment itself will take less than one hour and initially involves both a physical and an ultrasound examination to map the vein to be treated.

Varicose veins may only cause cosmetic concerns but sometimes can cause legs to ache or swell. Your legs may also feel heavy and tired or as though they are burning. These symptoms may be more severe at the end of the day or after prolonged sitting or standing. In more severe cases, varicose veins can lead to skin changes resulting in eczema, pigmentation, and ulceration or bleeding.
